Here’s the footage from our first experiment with a DIY cable cam. The video gives you a glimpse into how we made the device itself and the final footage. It was all filmed on The Beast in the Peak District on a Panasonic GH1. It was a rather overcast day but we did the best we could. If you want more in depth info on how we made the cable cam check our how-to guide. We would love to hear your feedback. Enjoy!

When do we get to see the out takes of you bashing your thumb with a hammer building that thing?
Excellent works as always H.

Thanks for sharing this. Good to see you working so closely with your local over 60s drop in centre. Nice to see them getting out, though a shame you didn’t get any shots of him shredding The Beast. The young bloke looked a bit timid
Great video!
great DIY, but even better execution. Well done.
What is that black hitch thing that you hooked on the actual rope that was on the tree?? and where would i be able to find one?
Joey,
I think you mean the device that is orange on one side and black on the other, if so it a Petzl Protraxion. You can get them off the internet or any good climbing shop. Hope that helps.

Nice work. I too have made a simple cable cam. I need to take the time to publish my results as you have. Once again it comes down to feeling inspired when I have the time to do it. It always seems like I feel the most creative when I have many other things to do. Inspiring though, your film is. I enjoyed the inclusion of the trip to the hardware store. Again thanks for entertaining me while I am on lunch;)

Thanks Cory! Nice to know you enjoyed the video. You should definitely share your own results!
