Patrick and I recently decided to make the most of the autumn season and get out on the mountain biking trails to film again. We wanted to capture a forest track with blue skies and crispy autumn leaves so what better place to start than Wharncliffe woods.
We mostly played on the various downhill routes to film some of the technical features. It always amazes me how hard it is to capture the real steepness of any trail on video but Patrick put maximum effort into the riding so much so that he crashed his bike and injured himself on numerous occasions. It fits with our motto – ”if you don’t fall off your not trying hard enough” – at least that’s what we’re sticking to for now.
The Wharncliffe video has a very different aesthetic from our last biking video made at Lee Quarry which was filmed in spring and has a very unusual industrial setting, man made trails and gigantic berms. This time round at Wharncliffe we’ve tried to make the most of the autumn colours, off camber roots and technical rocky sections. I’ve also tried to make the most of the aperture priority setting on my GH1 and shoot footage on a large aperture to give a wide depth of field. As a consequence the video looses some of that crispness seen in our Lee Quarry video but I think it works in it’s own way. I’m editing the footage all together at the moment and shall upload here as soon as I’m finished.
